The best way to understand how something works is to build one yourself.
To build this kaleidoscope you will need...
*Three pieces of mirror card-(or card with tinfoil glued to it.)
4.3 cm wide and 21cm long.
*Two empty paper roll tubes.
*Small colourful see-through objects.
*Transparent plastic discs the same size as the smaller tube.
*Scissors
*A glue stick
1. Begin by cutting your mirror card into three strips. The strips need to be 4.3 cm wide and 21cm long. Once cut, Sellotape the three sides together to form a long pyramid. Make sure the shiniest sides face towards each other. Push into kitchen roll tube so that the pyramid reaches the very end of the tube.
2. Cut two discs of plastic (could be from old food containers). The circles need to have be the same size as the top of the tubes One disc needs to be totally see-through and the other needs to be cloudy. If you haven’t got cloudy plastic to hand then simply glue a piece of greaseproof paper onto a see-through disc. Put the see-through disc inside the tube so that it rests at the end of the pyramid. Tape into place.

3. Pour your beads on top of the see through disc. Don’t overfill because the beads need to be able to move around.
4. Place the cloudy plastic disc onto the end and secure in place with tape.

5. Turn the kaleidoscope over. At this end you need to tape a disc of cardboard the same size as the tube with a hole cut in the centre. Now you are ready to decorate and play.
